Mexico y Filipinas, hermanas nacionales

Only in the last year did I realize that the two countries were very very close. It was the missus who told me about this. I was shocked to hear that Filipinas and Mexico were like one country separated only by the seas. She highlighted this to me as part of her research into the effects of colonization to a country's psyche and education. I knew the Spanish soldiers that went to Filipinas were first assigned to Mexico, but I did not realize there was more to that. Our history books never spoke of this very close relationship with the Mexicans. I hope the few Filipinos who visit this blog may get to realize what their history books neglected to tell them.

As a tribute, here is Thalia, a Mexican singer, singing a Filipino song when she was in Manila - "I am here".

Muchachos, no sabía que estábamos como hermanos.

Yes isn't she a superb pretty and talented lady?

Thalia is absolutely beautiful woman. The Filipinos went gaga on her when she sang this song. Did you see the translation at the end? She really killed them and wowed them good. So she is now very welcome and Manila is looking forward to her return.

There must be some lucky guy out there who she has made very happy.

However, as with these stars, they are actually a product, a merchandise that can be mined.

I was just laughing out loud one time with the missus, because there is a famous host loved by the public in Manila. He sings alright but not that up on the top level. Yet, all the composers are knocking on his door. They know their song will be bought not because their songs are that good, only because he sings it.

Oh, facebook? I do not use it much but I think my sign in is "lonerider" (for simply the fact that I ride a Sporster).

I will look for you when I sign in.

Fritz,

I feel sorry for the young Pinoys nowadays because they are not taught Spanish. As a baby boomer, I was taught 2 years of spanish in high school and 2 years in college.

It was the language spoken by my granparents and they were no Spaniards (well except on my mom side). It was the language spoken by some of your ancestors too, I think I can bet that.

It is never too late for you to learn.

The nice thing about how history has shaped us is that we can relate to our Asian cousins and also the Latin ones too. That is rich.
